Caring for Alzheimer’s Patients

Alzheimer’s, Dementia and Memory Care! Picket Fence Home Care specializes in caring for patients afflicted with Alzheimer’s Disease. Staff members are required to attend periodic courses that keep them up to date with the latest techniques to help patients and their loved ones cope with this most difficult disease.

Alzheimer’s Disease

Alzheimer’s is a progressive, incurable form of dementia that is most prevalent in people 65 and older. Early symptoms include mild memory loss and difficulty understanding others. As the disease progresses, Alzheimer’s patients lose their ability to perform daily tasks, respond to their environment, communicate with others and even recognize their loved ones. Some may experience radical mood swings or psychotic-like episodes.

With proper care, Alzheimer’s patients can live for as long as 20 years after symptoms first appear. Picket Fence’s caregivers are committed to making these years as comfortable as possible for Alzheimer’s patients and their families.

Our Alzheimer’s specialists are trained to:

  • Maintain a safe environment for patients
  • Engage patients in games and other brain-stimulating activities
  • Manage mood swings, wandering and dementia-related confrontations
  • Ensure that patients receive proper nutrition
  • Assist with daily activities
